Canada and the US are great allies, but that doesn’t mean their fowl are friendly.

A bald eagle, America’s national symbol, and a loon, which graces the Canadian dollar coin, had a nasty clash — and only the loon survived, the BBC reported.

A mother loon took down the eagle by stabbing it in the heart with her beak, a necropsy showed.

The eagle was found floating in a Maine lake near a dead loon chick; the baby birds are common prey for the heavy-beaked eagles.

Scientists in the Pine Tree State figured something fishy must be up because the chick and the eagle were so close together — and they were right.

A pathologist at the National Wildlife Health Center in Wisconsin determined the eagle died at the hand of a mother loon, and her baby had eagle talon marks, the outlet reported.

Maine’s wildlife agency claims the eagle’s death is the first confirmed case of a loon slaying an eagle.

“Who would think a loon would stand a chance against such a powerful predator?” wildlife biologist Danielle D’Auria wrote on the department’s blog.
